Hacks for sleep
Sleep is critical for your immune system and your overall happiness. Nothing feels better than falling asleep as soon as your head hits your pillow and waking up refreshed and ready after a deep, deep nights sleep. Im getting sleepy just typing that 🤣
Seriously, here is what the Mayo Clinic had to say about sleep:
Studies show that people who don’t get quality sleep or enough sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus, such as a common cold virus. Lack of sleep can also affect how fast you recover if you do get sick.
During sleep, your immune system releases proteins called cytokines, some of which help promote sleep. Certain cytokines need to increase when you have an infection or inflammation, or when you’re under stress. Sleep deprivation may decrease production of these protective cytokines. In addition, infection-fighting antibodies and cells are reduced during periods when you don’t get enough sleep.
So, your body needs sleep to fight infectious diseases. Long-term lack of sleep also increases your risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart and blood vessel (cardiovascular) disease.
So if you want to hack your health naturally, start by sleeping more and sleeping better. Here is a random list of hacks I have developed over the years:
- Use an eye mask to block out all light. Especially electronic lights
- Meditate right before bed
- CBD oil (warning – this will knock you out)
- Lavender Oil Aromatherapy
- Lemon Balm
- Valerian Root Tea
- Chamomile Herbal Tea Blends
- Chaste Tree Berry
- A cooling matress pad
- Waking up at the same time every day, no matter when I go to bed
And since sleep is when our Ancestors speak to us, you should give sleep the respect it deserves. Whatever works for you, do it.
